Abstract
1366930 Hatches; window opening mechanism L M L JANSSEN 26 Nov 1971 55069/ 71 Headings E2A and E2M A hinged skylight 2 is biased into an open position by a spring 5 and held in its closed position by a latch 21 co-operating with a fusible coupling 23 which releases the latch in the event of fire. The spring unit 5 acts on the skylight through rods 4 and includes an adjustable torsion spring (13), Fig. 12 (not shown). Latch 21 is provided on a lever 20 connected through pivot 21 and the fusible coupling 23 with another lever 18 mounted on a horizontal shaft 19. A torsion spring (25), Figs. 4 and 15 (not shown) biases the lever 18 into the latch-engaged position. In the event of fire, the coupling 23, made of white metal, fuses thereby releasing the spring bias on the latch which falls by gravity, Fig. 17 (not shown), to release the skylight and cause it to open. The latch may also be released manually by a pull cord 28.
