Abstract
1366785 Separator for alkaline primary cell DAINI SEIKOSHA KK 26 April 1972 [27 April 1971] 19398/72 Heading H1B [Also in Division B5] A separator 6 comprises three layers 61, 62, 63 pasted to one another by methyl cellulose or sodium methyl carboxy cellulose. The attachment of the layers by the adhesive facilitates assembly of the separator in the cell and the thin films of the adhesive improve the barrier properties of the separator. Layer 61 comprises an electrolyte-absorbent sheet made from natural fibres, e.g. cotton fibres or fibrous pulp. Layer 62 is a semi-permeable sheet made from Cellophane (Registered Trade Mark) or parchment paper. Layer 63 is a sheet made from alkaline-resisting synthetic fibres, e.g. nylon or vinyl. A cell incorporating the separator 6 comprises anode material 2 of granulated zinc amalgam, cathode material 5 comprising a mixture of silver oxide or mercuric oxide, and graphite and an electrolyte comprising aqueous caustic alkali containing zinc oxide.
