Abstract

1366275 X-ray apparatus COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE RADIOLOGIE 12 March 1973 [15 March 1972] 11749/73 Heading H5R Radiodiagnostic apparatus, particularly for pediatric use, and permitting both radiographic and tomographic examination, includes a member which defines a plane in which an X- ray film may be positioned for radiography, or in which it may be translated for tomography, this plane being rotatable about a horizontal axis from a horizontal to a vertical orientation, and a replaceable patient-support plate which is mounted such that its longitudinal axis remains parallel to the film plane while permitting translation either parallel or perpendicular to that axis, rotation about that axis or an axis perpendicular to it, and movement towards and away from the film plane. As shown, the patientsupport plate 64, Fig. 1, is mounted on rotatable shafts 62, 63 supported in plates 58, Figs. 1 and 2, and 59, Fig. 1, above the film plane F in the frame 6. The shafts 62 and 63 are movable with respect to their supporting plates 58, 59 to left or right for the view of Fig. 2, providing transverse movement of the support plate axis with respect to the surface of the frame 6. Movement of the support plate towards or away from frame 6 is produced by rotation of the supporting arms 56, Fig. 2, and 57, Figs. 1 and 2. These arms are rotatable about a shaft housed in a member 55, which is itself mounted for axial movement with respect to housing 51, to permit longitudinal movement of the support plate with respect to the frame 6. The housing 51 is rotatable about pivots 49, 50 located near one of its ends, and defining a vertical axis in Figs. 1 and 2, to permit transverse orientation of the support plate longitudinal axis with respect to frame 6. Details of the mechanism for producing the various movements are given. The support plate is detachably mounted on a pair of plates (620, 630, Fig. 5, not shown) by the projection of spring-loaded bolts into holes in the plates, permitting ready interchange of support plates, and the securing of a patient to the plate before insertion into the apparatus. The support plate may have crenellated edges (Fig. 3, not shown), or be provided with a slideway adjacent its edges, to facilitate the use of belts or other patient restraining means. The X-ray tube 20 is supported from a pair of columns 21 and 23 which are pivotable to form a deformable parallelogram, further links 32, 34, and 33 forming a tomographic arrangement, the link 33 being rotatable about pivot 27 on column 23, and about a vertically adjustable pivot 35 on the main frame of the apparatus, the lower end of the link being coupled to the film cassette. The whole apparatus is rotatable into a vertical position by the toothed sector 8 (Fig. 4, not shown).
