Abstract

1366073 Valve assemblies D FISHER and E FISHER 18 Aug 1971 [19 Aug 1970] 39820/70 Headings F2F and F2V A valve assembly for use in a braking system comprises a chamber 12 having a fluid inlet 114, a plurality of chambers 112 served by the fluid inlet 114 and a fluid outlet 116 for each chamber, the inlet 114 and outlets 116 being connected to a source of pressure, e.g. a master cylinder, and a load, e.g. wheel brake cylinders, respectively. A valve closure means, e.g. a piston 118, is displaceable within each chamber 12 on the establishment of a pressure difference across the means and is adapted to co-operate with a corresponding valve seat formed around the outlet 16 when the pressure difference exceeds a predetermined maximum. A fluid by-pass 104, 100 extends between the inlet and outlets and a valve 121 is provided for selectively directing fluid either into the chamber 12 or through the by-pass. The by-pass may be connected to the outlet end of the chamber through one-way valves. In the construction shown a passage communicates through a one-way valve 126 with a reservoir. The valve 121 may comprise a screw 42 having a conical tip 44 and a waisted portion, the screw being mounted in a housing 10 and the position of the screw in the housing determining the connections of the valve. The piston may be latched in its forward sealing position (Figs. 3, 4, 5, not shown).
