Abstract
1365880 Ignition systems JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 4 Nov 1971 [17 Nov 1970] 54570/70 Heading FiB A conversion kit for an ignition system comprises a plate 31 adapted for connection to a contact breaker housing, a pair of windings 19 connected to the plate, a control device 28, adapted for connection to an engine driven shaft and incorporating magnetic means 29 which when the plate and control device are in position couple the windings magnetically whenever a spark is required and an electronic control circuit of which the windings form part, the electronic control circuit having terminals for connecting the circuit between the battery of a vehicle and the primary winding of the ignition coil (not shown) to replace the contact breaker and being designed to interrupt current flow in the primary winding and so produce a spark each time the windings are magnetically coupled. The electronic circuit comprises a printed circuit board 13 and includes a fixed frequency oscillator, an electronic switch and control means coupling the oscillator to the switch whereby the oscillator controls conduction of the switch. The oscillator may be permanently coupled to the control means and the windings form part of the oscillator so that the oscillator operates only when the windings are magnetically coupled. Alternatively the oscillator may operate permanently in use and the windings couple the oscillator to the control means when a spark is required. The plate 31 is adapted for connection to a conventional vacuum advance unit 30.
