Abstract
1365596 Determination of gases in metal sample INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE 14 Aug 1972 [12 Aug 1971] 37884/72 Heading G1B To degass a sample e.g. metal, for use in determining the quantities of various gases present in the sample in a crucible at position 33 by induction heating from coils 27, tube 32 is moved upwards to carry the crucible to position 24, which movement is arranged simultaneously to move obturation member 3 upwards, and cause carrier gas to flow inwards from orifices 23 to increase to form a protective gas curtain, and the sample to be degassed is passed through the protective gas curtain into the crucible at position 24. The tube 32 is now lowered to carry the crucible to position 33, which action is arranged to cause member 3 to move down to seal the apparatus with 25, which causes the gas flow from orifices 23 to be reduced, and induction heater 27 is activated. Gases evolved from the sample in the crucible at position 33 are carried by carrier gas through holes 34 and via flexible channel 35 towards a measuring device.
