1364316 Driving overhead endless conveyers HYTRAC CONVEYORS Ltd 24 Feb 1972 [24 Feb 1971] 5369/71 Heading B8A In a conveyer system including a linear conveyer element and a drive unit comprising at least one driving element which travels round guide wheels and carries drive dogs for engagement with the conveyer element, each drive dog is carried by a carrier pivotally mounted on the driving element on two longitudinally spaced axes, the drive dog being positioned intermediate said two axes. In the Figure, dogs 21 drive main chain 1, the dogs being carried by carrier members 22 which are pivotally mounted on driving chain 8 on pivot pins of the chain, the pivot axes of each carrier being spaced longitudinally of the chains by a distance equal to twice the pitch of the chain links, so that as the carrier passes round the guide wheels 9 the line joining the pivot axes of the carrier intersects the circle defined by the guide wheel, the chord formed by this intersection increasing to a maximum and then decreasing again so that the driving dogs are removed from the path of the main chain at the end of their driving run with the assistance of a movement perpendicular to the main chain and similarly engagement of the driving dogs with the main chain at the beginning of the driving run is assisted by a movement perpendicular to the main chain.
