Abstract

1364143 An automatic pistol COLT INDUSTRIES OPERATING CORP 19 Sept 1972 [24 Sept 1971] 43379/72 Heading F3C An automatic pistol comprises a frame 12, Fig. 1, a slide assembly 14 including a slide 18 and a barrel 16, having a barrel lug 54, Fig. 3, thereon, the slide assembly being movable between a forward and a rearward position and being biased towards said forward position, a slide stop latch 30, Fig. 4, which is mounted on the frame 12 for movement between a position in non-interfering relation to the slide assembly 14 and an operative position wherein the latch 30 is in obstructing relation to movement of the slide assembly 14 toward its forward position, and a releasable takedown pin 50 which is pivotally supported on the frame for rotation between a slide stop position, where the pin 50 is engageable with the barrel lug 54 of the slide assembly 14 and defines its forward position, and a slide release position, in angularly displaced relation to its normal slide stop position, the takedown pin 50 in its slide release position being in non-interfering relation to the slide assembly 14 to permit its removal from the frame 12, the takedown pin 50 having a manual actuating lever 60 engageable with the slide stop latch 30 simultaneously upon rotation of the takedown pin 50 into its slide release position to automatically activate the slide stop latch 30 and move it into the operative position for temporarily latching the slide assembly 14 to the frame 12 during slide removal. A spring 38 is supported on the frame 12 and engages the slide stop latch 30 for continuously urging it to the position of non-interfering relation, the spring 38 also maintaining the slide stop latch 30 against lateral displacement relative to the frame 12. The slide stop latch 30 includes a pin 34 which is supported for pivotal movement in the frame and an operating lever 32 which is secured to the pin 34 and has an abutment shoulder 72 engageable with the actuating lever 60 of the takedown pin 50 upon movement thereof into the slide release position. The operating lever 32 maintains the actuating lever 60 in its slide release position in operative position relative to the frame 12. A trigger pin 24 is supported in an opening in the frame, the operating lever 32 overlying the opening and serving as a one-way stop continuously maintaining the trigger pin 24 in assembled relation to the frame. The slide assembly 14 includes interlocking means 74, Fig. 1, having a receiver portion for receiving at least part of the actuating lever 60 which is rotated by the slide assembly 14 to a pre-selected position relative to the frame 12, the interlock means 74 preventing inadvertent actuation of the takedown pin 50 to the slide release position and permitting it to be actuated when the slide assembly 14 and frame 12 are in the preselected position, this being when the slide assembly 14 is in its rearward position relative to the frame.
