Abstract

1363856 Feeding webs K T JENKINS 2 Dec 1971 [31 Dec 1970] 61936/70 Heading B8R Apparatus for feeding a selected one of a multiplicity of differing textile or plastics webs to processing apparatus 22 comprises:- a framework 1 sub-divided by horizontal and transverse members 2, 3 into a plurality of compartments suitable for the storage of the different webs; frictionally gripping rollers 4 in each compartment for guiding the associated web to support rollers 6; a slackness regulator 8 of the tensioned-loop type (Fig. 2, not shown) which receives the webs from the rollers 6; a grid of spacing rollers 18; and a vertically movable unit 19 provided with a vertical grid of feed rollers 20 and with lodgement means 21 supporting clamps attached to the free ends of the webs. The arrangement is such that each web passes through the apparatus in a separate sinuous path with its free end attached to a clamp supported by the unit 19 which can be raised or lowered by a lifting jack (not shown) to bring a selected web into line with the receiving surface of the processing apparatus 22. Initial threading of webs through the apparatus is effected by means of a disposable "donkey" length of web extending along each path from a feed roller 20 to a roller 4.
