Abstract

1363668 Heating I C engine charge BRITISH LEYLAND (AUSTIN-MORRIS) Ltd 5 Oct 1971 46193/71 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A housing 2, e.g. containing an air filter, has opposed air inlets 3, 4 for unheated and heated air and an outlet, and a vane 7, carried by a cantilever-like bi-metallic strip 5, is disposed between the inlets to control flow therethrough in accordance with the temperature of the air flowing through the housing and maintain the temperature substantially constant. Discs 10 of polyester urethane foam can seat on the flanged inner ends of the inlets 3, 4. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) the bi-metallic strip (17) is U-shaped and the inlets are formed in a housing (12) detachably secured to an air filter housing (14). The strip may taper in width and the inlet 4 may provide greater air-flow restriction than the inlet 3, whereby the vane 7 is deflected towards the inlet 4 at higher air-flows.
