Abstract

1,255,095. Air filter for I.C. engine. FRAM CORP. 1 July, 1969 [1 July, 1968], No. 33246/ 69. Heading BIT. [Also in Division Fl] An air filter for an I.C. engine intake comprises a flat casing 1 with a removable top cover 17, which enables a flat pleated filter element (5) to be inserted therein, an inlet manifold 6 delivering air from inlets 7 and 8 to one side of the element along the lower edge of the casing, while filtered air leaves the casing through outlets 13, which open into the carbureter manifold. Inlet 7 points forward of the vehicle to receive cold air, and inlet 8 draws warm air from across the engine. a valve (9) movable by lever 11 closing one or other of the inlets as required. The casing is made in two parts, joined by screws 3. Both parts are of plastics, but an internal metal plate (15) reinforces the side where screws 14 project to mount the casing on the carbureter (Fig. 2, not shown). Tapes (16) on filter element (5) facilitate insertion.
