Abstract

1363082 Grab buckets R O BILLINGS 6 Oct 1971 46548/71 Heading B8H [Also in Division E1] Supported from the head structure of a clam shell bucket are two bucket sections 30, 31 which are moved by equal amounts between open and closed positions by a piston cylinder unit 45, 43 extending obliquely to the axis of the bucket between the head and a point 45<SP>1</SP> on one section 30 and by a link 42 connecting the bucket sections. Preferably the link 42 is connected between the extension ends 36, 41 of spaced apart levers 32, 37 secured to the tops of the sections 30, 31 which are pivotally secured between the arms 27 of a dipper sticksupported yoke 29 by pivot pins 34, 39. The cutting lips of the bucket sections 30, 31 are outwardly flared so that the bucket can excavate an area of greater width than the width of the bodies of sections 30, 31.
