Abstract

1362917 Sheathing for pipe insulation; pipe couplings INSUL-TECHNIK AG 21 Aug 1972 [30 Sept 1971 (2)] 38859/72 Headings F2P and F2G Protective sheathing for covering thermal insulation 2 on a pipeline 3 consists of longitudinally-slit cylindrical sections 1 and elbows composed of half shells 17 and 18, the longitudinal edges of the slit sections 1 being formed with flanges 10 and 11 to engage into each other and the half shells 17 and 18 being formed at their outer edges with flanges 20 and 23 to engage each other and at their inner edges with overlapping edges 33 and 34 which can be secured together, e.g. by screws 35. The ends of the elbow sections initially have semi-circular end cover portions which are pre-marked and are cut on site to provide openings 28, 32. The edge portions of the cylindrical sections are preferably deflected inwards so that the engaged flanges are concealed behind a longitudinal ridge 5 which has transition portions 6, 7 with the circumference of the sheathing. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates another form of interengaging flanges. The longitudinal sections may also be provided with radial ridges 4 to form abutments for adjacent sections. A substantially moisture-proof connection between longitudinal sections and elbows can be obtained by the use of split sleeves (40) engaging within adjacent sections and elbows, the sleeves (40) having grooves (41) for engagement by the end covers, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown). The sheathing may be made of sheet metal or plastics.
