Abstract

1362888 Time switches DIEHL 8 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 26705/72 Heading H1N A motor driven time switch having a manually operable member for setting a time interval is provided with means operable to prevent such manual adjustment during a timing operation. As shown, rotation of knob 4, and hence shaft 3, clockwise causes arm 10 to entrain disc 9 (by means of its interior "dog" 25) and rotate it until cam lobe 26 abuts a stop 24 whereat contacts 27 are closed and synchronous motor 13 is energized. This drives gear 7 via reduction gearing 12 and, through friction clutch 8, returns shaft 3 until arm 10 engages the other side of "dog" 25 and entrains disc 9 to open contacts 27. A rotary coupling member 20 continuously engaged with a gear 6 on shaft 3 is axially movable by a device 23 to engage the gear 7, thus providing a rigid coupling from motor 13 to shaft 3 whereby manual rotation of knob 4 is prevented. The device 23 may be operated, for example, by changes in voltage, air pressure or moisture content. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the friction clutch 8 is omitted so that the shaft 3 and knob 4 do not commence the return to the start position until device 23 couples gears 6 and 7. In each embodiment, after full clockwise movement to energize motor 13, the knob 4 can be adjusted to set a desired time interval prior to the coupling by device 23, but not thereafter.
