Abstract

1362836 Radio signalling MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 29 Sept 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 45417/71 Heading H4L In a system for receiving signals from mobile radio stations, such as motor vehicles, a number of fixed receiving stations are provided which are distributed at known positions within the service area, and which are divided into groups each associated with a respective relay station. Each receiving station has an individual transmission line to its relay station, and each relay station has an individual transmission line to a central station. The lines from each relay station to the associated receiving stations are successively scanned, and the output from each relay station is processed in the central station. As described, a message from a motor vehicle comprises an identification number and such information as whether or not it has a passenger. A feature is, that the message may be sent at a repetition frequency which is proportional to the speed of the vehicle (Fig. 1, not shown). At a relay station the lines from its receiving stations are successively scanned by a circuit 11, Fig. 4, controlled from the central station by a synchronizing signal and by clock pulses which correspond in number to the greatest number of receiving stations coupled to a relay station, and which have a period at least equal to the time required for a mobile station signal to be received at the central station. The transmission lines from the relay stations are connected at the central station to the inputs of respective demodulators 21 to 24, Fig. 5, which provide outputs to a central processing section 15. This reads out and stores the information from the mobile station signals and operates peripheral circuitry, which may comprise printing means, so that, for example, it it known which receiving station is in contact with which mobile station at a particulr time. The processing section 15 also sends out, on a line "e", the synchronizing and scanning control signals to the relay stations.
