Abstract
1362652 Apparatus for covering a core by winding L ROCHEGUDE and P ROCHEGUDE 6 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 10265/72 Heading B8G An apparatus for wrapping a covering material around a central core comprises a rotatable head 7 mounted on a hollow shaft 1 and carrying an axially projecting needle 9, a bore 7c in the head 7 offset with respect to the needle 9 to guide core material 11 from the hollow shaft 1 to the needle 9, and means for winding the covering material 14 about the core material 11 on the needle 9 to form a composite strand. The covering material 14 is wound on to the core 11 while the latter is in a state of torsion. Subsequently the core untwists and tends to unwind the covering material. The covering material is then slack and appears to float on the core. There may be additional means for applying a binding material to the composite strand as it leaves the needle, the binding material serving to prevent any slipping of the covering material on the core material. The apparatus may be combined with a knitting loom so that the composite strand is immediately fastened to other strands or to itself, the fastenings thus formed preventing untimely slipping of the covering material on the core.
