Description

Patented May 14, 1929,.
UNITED STATES JOHN E. DISCH, OF DOLGEVILLE, NEW YORK.
ROSETTE-MAKING METHOD.
Application filed June 20,
This invention relates to a method of forming rosettes from braid or ribbon, the object of the invention being to provide an adhesive for fastening the braid or ribbon in the form of a rosette so that the use of wire and the like is eliminated.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which V Figure l is a diagrammatic plan view showing how the adhesive is applied to the cord before the same is formed into a rosette.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing how the treated cord or braid is run from a reel into the forming machine.
Figure 3 is a plan view of a rosette formed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 4 is a side view of Figure 3.
Referring to Figure 1, 1 indicates a reel which contains the braid or ribbon 2 and 3 indicates a pair of spool supporting members which carry the threads 4. These threads and the ribbon pass through a special sewing machine A where the ribbon is formed into loops and the threads are stitched into the ribbon to hold it in loops to form the braid B which is shown as passing from the machine A. This braid is wound upon a reel R. The braid is then taken from the reel R and passed through a forming machine C which forms the rosette shown at D in Fig- 1927. Serial No. 200,148.
ures 3 and 4. This method and means of forming rosettes is Well known and forms no part of my invention, but my invention consists in treating the stitched edge of the braid as it passes from the sewing machine to the reel, with adhesive material as shown at 5, this material being preferably applied 40 by means of a roller 6 mounted on a base 7 over which the braid passes. After the adhesive material has dried, the braid or cord is run through the forming machine which forms the rosette and as the cord is being turned and looped upon itself, the pressure applied to the same will cause the adhesive material to adhere to the part against which it is pressed and thus the braid or cord will be held in rosette form.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
\Vhat I claim is The herein described method of forming v JOHN E. DISCH.
