Abstract

1362619 Feeding sheets and webs J A BLACK 11 April 1972 16621/72 Heading B8R Apparatus for transversely registering a longitudinally travelling web or sheet includes a movable suction surface for engaging the travelling web or sheet the surface being mounted for deflection away from the longitudinal direction for altering the transverse position of the web or sheet. As shown in plan in Fig. 3, the surface is constituted by a perforated continuous belt 30 which free-wheels or is driven between pulleys 32, 34 on a framework pivotable at 60 between limits set by stop screws 84, 86. A suction bellows (24), Fig. 2 (not shown), controlled by side edge suction sensors (78), determines, via link 70, the inclination of the belt 30 from the normal longitudinal feed path thus correcting the transverse position of misaligned webs or sheets as they are sucked against the belt.
