Abstract

1362480 Coating composition SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 14 April 1972 17302/72 Heading C3B A composition suitable for application by travelling is prepared by mixing 1 part of a liquid water-insoluble resin, especially an epoxy resin, with 5-10 parts by wt. of inert inorganic particles having a particle size of not less than 74 Á and then adding to the mixture 0À5-2 parts by weight of an aqueous soln. containing from 0À25 to 1% by weight of a water soluble polysaccharide compound. The binder may comprise a reaction product of an epoxy resin with a water-insoluble amine containing at least two reactive amino hydrogen atoms, e.g. the reaction product of equimolar amounts of a primary polyamine and a glycidyl ester of a C 9-11 monocarboxylic aliphatic acid. Reaction products of amines with diglycidyl ethers and phenol/aldehydes are also suitable. A low volatile extender may also be present, e.g. pine oil, coal tar, or aromatic extracts of petroleum distillates. A phenolic accelerator, e.g. salicylic acid may also be used. The inert particles may be sand and/or molochite having particle size 74 Á to 2À0 mm. Suitable polysaccharides are starch, dextrine, carboxymethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose or hydroxyethyl cellulose. Uses.-Flooring.
