Abstract

1362455 Epoxy resin moulding composition CIBA-GEIGY AG 15 June 1972 [25 June 1971] 28045/72 Heading C3B A storage stable, quick curing epoxy resin moulding composition comprises: (I) an epoxy resin; (II) a curing agent which is an adduct containing free amino groups formed from a low molecular weight epoxy resin and a polyamine containing an aromatic group or groups; and (III) a mineral or organic pulverulent or fibrous filler. I and II each have a softening point of 45-120‹ C. and a melting point 5- 30‹ C. higher than their respective softening points and are present in the moulding material predominantly as discrete particles. The composition may also contain a lubricant, e.g. a partially esterified polyethylene wax. I may be an adduct of a low M.W. epoxy resin and a polyamine, e.g. a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A and 4,4<SP>1</SP>-diaminodiphenylmethane. II may be formed by reacting epoxy resin with the aromatic polyamine, e.g. at 50-200‹ C., such that the ratio of amino hydrogen atoms to epoxy groups is 3 : 1 to 5 : 1. I, II and III are ground together so that only a minimum of fusing takes place. Uses.-Electrical insulation.
