Abstract

1484036 Epoxy resin moulding compositions CIBA-GEIGY AG 5 Nov 1974 [6 Nov 1973] 47848/74 Heading C3B Storage stable moulding compositions contain : (A) an adduct containing epoxy groups, of a triglycidyl compound (in which X is an alkylene radical to form a 5- or 6-membered heterocycle and R is H or C 1-4 alkyl) and an organic compound (II) containing at least 2 active hydrogen atoms; (B) as curing agent, an adduct, containing amino groups, of a cycloaliphatic, aliphatic-cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic polyamine and a polyglyoidyl compound; and (C) a mineral or organic, pulverulent or fibrous filler. (A) and (B) each soften at 45-120‹ C. and melt 5-30‹ C. above the softening point. The compositions may additionally contain a lubricant. (I) are described and claimed in Specification 1,380,602. (II) may be an aromatic-, C 2-10 aliphatic-cycloaliphaticaliphatic-, heterocyclic - aliphatic - primary amine; a mono- or bi-nuclear hydantoin or dihydrouracil; a dialcohol; a mono- or polynuclear dihydric phenol; or a dicarboxylic acid. A typical resin adduct is prepared by reacting cyclohexylamine with 3,3<SP>1</SP>-(2-glycidoxypropylene) - bis - (1 - glycidyl - 5,5 - dimethylhydantoin). Examples of curing agents are adducts of (a) 4,4<SP>1</SP> - diamino - dicyclohexylmethane and a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A; (b) 4,41-diamino - 3,3<SP>1</SP> - dimethyldicyclohexylmethane and the diglycidyl ester of 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid. (A) and (B) may be prepared by reaction at 50-200‹ C. A catalyst may be present in preparing (A). Uses.-Electrical insulation.
