Abstract

1362389 Guanidines ARMOUR PHARMACEUTICAL CO 6 Sept 1971 [10 Nov 1970] 41535/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Guanidines (some of which are novel) of the Formula I (in which R 1 is H or C 1-4 alkyl, R 2 is H, OH, Cl, F or Br, or R 1 and R 2 are joined to form a benzo group, R 3 is H, CH 3 CO, Cl, Br, F or OH, and R 4 is H, Cl, Br or F, provided that when R 4 is Cl, Br or F, R 2 is the same, and R 3 is other than OH, and provided that the number of OH groups is never greater than one) are prepared by reacting cyanamide with an appropriate amine or mineral acid addition salt thereof, or by reacting an appropriate 1-aryl-2-methyl-2- thiopseudourea hydroiodide, ammonia and ethanol. The guanidines may be converted to their acid addition salts. Compounds I have vasoconstrictor properties and may be formulated into pharmaceutical preparations.
