Abstract
1361997 Active carbon filter; purifying liquids NIPPON ROSUIKI KOGYO KK 1 Sept 1971 [9 Sept 1970] 40753/71 Headings C1A and C1C An active carbon filter is made by producing a filter mainly composed of diatomaceous earth and having pores of from 0À3 to 3À0 microns in diameter, impregnating said filter with a solution of monosaccharides of a concentration such that the viscosity of the solution is as low as possible, removing the excess of solution from the pores of the impregnated filter and then heating it at a temperature of 500 to 700‹C. while excluding air. In a modification of the process, the solution may be of oligosaccharides. The preferred substrate is a biscuit ware, i.e. porous unglazed porcelain and the active carbon film produced is 0À01 to 0À05 microns thick. The filter may be used for removing pyrogen from injection fluids, and removing gases, heavy metals and organic materials. The filters are extremely resistant to alkali.
