Abstract
1361733 Esters of chloramphenicol and thiamphenicol SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 31 Aug 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 40486/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Novel D-threo-compounds I in which R 1 and R 2 are an α-halo-C 1-8 alkyl group or an optionally substituted phenyl group but R 1 differs from R 2 and R 3 is nitro or methylsulphonyl are prepared by acylating D-threo-1- R 3 substituted phenyl-2-dichloroacetamidopropane-1,3-diol with a carboxylic acid R 1 COOH or its acid halide anhydride or mixed anhydride to form a novel ester which may be isolated followed by acylation with an acid R 2 COOH or one of the above defined derivatives. Chloramphenicol O<SP>3</SP>-3,5-dinitrobenzoate-O<SP>1</SP>-α-bromo-n-butyrate. Chloramphenicol-O<SP>3</SP>-α-bromo-n-butyrate- O<SP>1</SP>-3,5-dinitrobenzoate. Thiamphenicol-O<SP>3</SP>-α-bromo-n-butyrate-O<SP>1</SP>-3,5-dinitrobenzoate, Chloramphenicol O<SP>3</SP>-chloroacetate-O<SP>1</SP>-α-bromo-n-butyrate are prepared. Compounds I exhibit anti-microbial activity and form with a carrier or diluent a pharmaceutical preparation which may be administered orally. The preparation may also contain chloramphenicol and/or thiamphenicol.
