1361477 Rotary fluid-flow meters CRANE CO 12 Nov 1971 52674/71 Heading F1F [Also in Division G1] A water meter has a casing 11 containing a register mechanism 9 and a cover glass 15, which is secured in contact with a gasket 31 by a rolled edge-portion 8 of the casing, and to permit removal of the glass when access to said mechanism is required circumferentially-extending score-lines 34, 36 are formed above a shoulder 28 so as to create a tear strip 35, which includes a tab 38. The portion 8 can thus be detached completely. Alternatively, the tear strip is disposed vertically or diagonally. A bottom portion 24 of the casing is imperforate and a tubular extension 10 fixed to the side wall 46 is attached to an imperforate plate 5' by a screw 6, this plate being secured to the top of a housing 5 for a flow-sensing device (not shown), which may be of the rotating-disc type. The glass is protected by a hinged cover 19. The flow-sensing device is coupled to the register mechanism by magnets 20, 22. The casing is made of drawn or moulded sheet-material e.g. brass, bronze or a synthetic plastics material. When the glass is returned to the casing it may be secured by either a split ring, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), or a ring with a portion that is deformed to overlap the glass when in situ with the aid of a special tool, Fig. 7 (not shown). The ring may comprise a tear strip. A second embodiment, Fig. 4, (not shown), differs mainly in that most of the casing is made of a cast material such as brass, bronze or a synthetic plastics material.
