Abstract
1361044 Cuvette V KASPAREK 5 July 1971 [6 July 1970] 31374/71 Heading G2J [Also in Division G1] In a flow cuvette for carrying out batchwise photo-metric, fluorometric, turbidimetric or nephelometric measurements of a liquid to be investigated comprising a measuring chamber for the reception of the liquid, the measuring chamber is attached at its lower end to an upwards-directed feed tube and at its upper end to a downwards-directed drain tube, the feed tube extends above the level of the uppermost part of the drain tube, the drain tube does not extend below the level of the lowermost part of the feed tube, and the radius of the drain tube at its outlet end is not greater than mg/2#F where m is the mass of a drop of the liquid to be investigated detaching from the end of the drain tube. F is the surface tension of the said liquid and g is the acceleration due to gravity. With such dimensions the introduction of a sample will displace any sample already present without mixing with it, the two bodies of liquid being separated by an air bubble.
