Abstract

1361033 Angular bending P F PEDDING- HAUS 1 Nov 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 50608/71 Heading B3E A bar 4 is bent to a predetermined angle and the reverse elastic travel of the bar compensated for by rotating a plate 1 having a pair of bending tools 2, 3 which coact in use with a fixed tool 5; counting on a counter (not shown) the impulses received when an impulse transmitter 14 is actuated by contacts mounted in positions 11-13 on a disc 9 which is rotated with the plate 1, delaying by a preselected period which is proportional to the value of the predetermined bending angle, the value of the ratio of the diameter of the bending tool 2 to the diameter of the bar 4, and a factor having a value lying between 0À004 and 0À008, the moment at which the number of impulses transmitted by the transmitter 14 corresponds to the number of impulses preset on the counter, to allow the plate to rotate through an angle greater than the predetermined angle; and finally reversing the rotation of the plate to return it to a zero position. Each contact, e.g. 15 or 16, Fig. 2, is slidably mounted in a slot 17, or 18 and is engaged by a pivoted lever 20. A disc 23, mounted concentrically with the disc 9, has brackets 25 into which the inner ends of levers 20 project and a scale 26 which is marked with a plurality of values for the ratio of the bending tool diameter to rod diameter. Thus on rotation of disc 23 in a direction 28 there is a proportional increase in the distance by which the contacts 15, 16 are advanced in their slots. If the hardness of rods being bent varies then the radial positions of the pivots of levers 20 are altered. In the embodiment in Fig. 3, each position corresponding to a predetermined bending angle has a group of contacts, e.g. 15, 15<SP>1</SP>. A greater number of impulses can be set on a counter 30 than corresponds to the nominal angle of rotation of the bending plate by a disc 33 and a gear 37, the latter comprising two frusto-conical parts 38, 39 connected by a belt 40. The position of the belt 40 can be adjusted by a fork 41 when there is a change in the ratio of tool diameter to rod diameter. The fork 41 is pivoted to accommodate changes in hardness of the rods.
