Abstract

1360818 Wood colouring solutions UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 16 Nov 1971 53104/71 Heading C4A An aqueous solution for use in colouring wood comprises furfuryl alcohol, a salt of iron, nickel, cobalt, copper, zinc or cadmium as catalyst, and a complexing agent for controlling the catalytic polymerization of furfuryl alcohol. The catalyst may be ferric or ferrous chloride, nitrate, or acetate, ferric sulphate and hydrates of the salts, ferrous citrate or formate, or ferric oleate, and copper sulphate. The complexing agent may be lactic acid or ammonium chloride. Details of the solution are given; the solution may also contain furfuraldehyde, methanol, ethanol, propanol or butanol. A variety of woods and veneers are quoted. The wood is coloured by contact with the solution and then drying at 70‹ to 180‹ C.
