Abstract

1340147 Impregnating permeable materials BRITISH LEYLAND TRUCK & BUS DIVISIONLtd 3 July 1972 [30 Sept 1971] 45514/71 Heading F2A [Also in Division F4] The coefficient of friction of the disc-shaped silicon nitride matrix core of a rotary regenerative heat exchanger is reduced by impregnating the core with a metallic salt which is then decomposed to the oxide. Preferably the quantity of metal oxide is in the range 2-10% of the weight of the matrix core to be impregnated. The core is boiled in an aqueous solution of the salt and then slowly cooled to room temperature, at which it is allowed to soak for at least 1 hour, followed by a subsequent heating in air to a temperature within the range 300-800‹ C. Examples of suitable metallic salts are chromium nitrate, cobalt nitrate, copper nitrate and zinc nitrate.
