Abstract

1360796 Burners DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 7 Sept 1971 [12 Sept 1970] 43703/70 Heading F4T A burner element for gas or liquid fuel comprises an assembly consisting of a first sheet member 10 and a second sheet member 11, sealed around their edges to form a first gallery 12, and having a plurality of superimposed apertures arranged in pairs, the material surrounding each aperture extending in tubular projections 13 and 14 towards the opposite member into interfitting association to form a fuel supply aperture 15 and the element further comprises a third sheet member 16, sealed to the edges of the second member 11 to form a second gallery 21, having a plurality of apertures 23 each corresponding to a passage 15 and each having a duct 22 extending into the passage 15. A fourth sheet member 17 may be included to form a third gallery 19. Combustion components, e.g. hydrogen and oxygen, are introduced to the burner, one via pipe 20 to the gallery 21 and thence to the annuli 25 and the other via pipe 18 to the gallery 19 and thence to ducts 22 to burn in the vicinity of the surface of the member 10. A cooling medium, e.g. water, is circulated in the first gallery 12 to cool the surface of the element. In a further embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) atomized liquid fuel is introduced into the first gallery where it vaporizes to cool the element and then passes, via perforations in the second member, to the second gallery and thence to the annuli 25 where it is burnt with air from the ducts. In a still further embodiment of a gas-burning element, grooves are formed on the inner surfaces of the tubular projections 13 and 14 to permit a restricted flow of cooling water in the first gallery 12 to the fuel supply passages for the generation of lowpressure steam for use in applications such as cooking and process work.
