Abstract

1359960 Chemically deburring metal parts GENERAL MOTORS CORP 28 Sept 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 44785/72 Heading C7E [Also in Division B6] Metal articles are deburred by cooling the metal to a temperature below the freezing point of water, forming a layer of ice on the metal, and then applying an aqueous metal corroding medium, at a temperature above the freezing point of water, to the metal. Examples are NaOH for Al, ferric chloride for Al, Be-Cu, brass, Cr, Cu-Ni, Cu, Ni-Mo-Fe, Fe-Ni, Ni- Cr-Fe-Mn-Cu, Pb, Ni-Fe-Mo, Ni-Cr, Ni, Ni silver, phospor-bronze, stainless steels, and Sn, chromicsulphuric-acid for Be-Cu, brass, Cu or Co-Fe-Mn-Ni, HCl for Cr or Mn, HF for Ge or Ti, HF-HNO 3 for silicon steel, Ge, Ta, and Ti, HNO 3 for cast iron, Mg, Mo, Ag, Te, Zn or steel, HNO 3 -HCl for Mo, Au, Pt, Ti or stainless steel, HNO 3 -ammonium bi-fluoride for stainless steel.
