Abstract
1359949 Pressure resisting closure mounting; spring systems for resilient mounting W & T AVERY Ltd 14 Aug 1972 [14 Aug 1971] 37811/72 Headings F2P and F2S The closure 1 (Fig. 2) for a vacuum chamber 15 is mounted on rails 13, 14 via carriages 2, (3) (Fig. 1, not shown) and vertical leaf springs 4, 5; (6, 7). The carriages 2, (3) are symmetrically mounted with respect to the vertical centreline of the closure. When the closure has been rolled to cover the aperture of the chamber a relatively light pressure axially of the closure will move the closure against the action of the springs 4, 5; (6-7) to seal with the chamber rim. This movement may be achieved by diametrally opposed rings 11, (12) engaging trunnions 9, (10) on the edge of the closure, the rings being displaceable axially of the chamber by hydraulic rams. One ring may be hingedly supported to allow it to be folded back prior to removing the closure 1 on rails 13, 4.
