Abstract
1359841 Heat transfer devices; furnaces PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 July 1971 [7 July 1970] 31102/71 Headings F4U and F4B A heat transfer device having a heating space 3 in which objects may be heated, e.g. a tunnel furnace, a melting tank for glass, a container for storage of molten glass at a given temperature or means for conveying liquids which are maintained in the liquid phase by heating, comprises a heat pipe formed about the space 3 between walls 2, 4 which has a capillary structure 6 and a portion only of the outer wall 4 is externally heated by means 4, which may be a burner 8 or electrical means. Thermal insulation may be provided around the exterior of the heat pipe and the pipe may be reinforced by one or more supporting elements therein, e.g. a porous filling mass of wire or mesh of greater pore size than the capillary structure and which allows free movement of the vapour of the working fluid. The working fluid may be sodium. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,275,846.
