Abstract

135,965. Dunn, C. E. Dec. 11, 1918. Air-pressure sprayers.-Liquids such as paint &c. are projected by first agitating a body of the liquid with compressed air, and then charging the air with such liquid by causing the liquid to be drawn in an annularly-formed spray into a rapidly moving current of the air, producing a mixture, which is compressed into a compact stream and then discharged. A reservoir 2 containing the liquid is provided with air-supply pipes 7, 19 controlled by valves 8, 9, 21, and exit pipes 23, 16 controlled by valves 24, 18, from which liquid and air respectively pass. In normal operation, the valve 21 is closed and the others open, and compressed air passes up through the pipe 4 and rose 5 to agitate the liquid. On opening the valve 31, liquid passes up the tube 23 past the ball valve 25, where it is atomized by compressed air from the chamber 2 passing through the closed chamber 17. The annular spray formed at 25 is compressed into a compact stream by means of a cone 27, and passes through the hose in the spraying-nozzle 32. Should the hose 29 burst, the ball valve 26 will be seated in the cone 27 and thus prevent escape of the liquid.
