Abstract
1359649 Heat exchangers JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 28 Oct 1971 [31 Oct 1970] 51893/70 Heading F4A A heat exchanger comprises a chamber (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), through which, in use, a first heat exchange fluid flows, a tube arrangement (11) within the chamber and through which, in use, a second heat exchange fluid flows, a thermocouple 20 having its hot junction secured to a wall of the tube, leads of the thermocouple extending internally of the tube, and a connection (21) to the tube through which the leads pass to the outside of the chamber in a sealed manner. The tube (11) is in sections 17, 18, and the adjacent ends of these sections are joined by sleeves 16. Each sleeve 16 retains the ends of the sections in a spaced-apart relationship, forming part of the wall of the tube. The hot junction of the thermocouple 20 is secured by brazing in an annular groove (19), Fig. 3 (not shown), in the sleeve, so as to lie against that part of the wall thereof which, in use, is upstream of hot gas passing through the chamber (10).
