Abstract

1359573 Launching rockets FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 4 Feb 1972 [2 April 1971] 5385/72 Heading F3A [Also in Division B3] A cutter for shearing a cable 1 attaching a missile 2 to a launching-rack (not shown) comprises a disc 8 rotatable about a bearing 8a and having an eccentric aperture 9 through which the cable passes and a tensioning cable 11, one end of which is attached to the launching rack and the other end of which is attached to, and passes about half-way round, the disc so as to rotate it and thus cause the edge of aperture 9 to shear the cable on missile take-off. A portion 10 of the edge is bevelled to form a knife. Before take-off, the aperture is located in the half of the disc around which the tensioning cable does not pass so that on rotation the disc blanks off the cable passage opening in the cover 4. Rotation of the disc also shears a retaining pin 14, releases a spring-loaded bush 15 which presses a packing 17 against the underface of the disc and allows a spring-loaded pin to enter the aperture 9 and close a contact 19 for controlling an operation the start of which must precisely coincide with take-off.
