Abstract

1359482 Grooving sheet material R E ING- HAM & CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 10797/70 Heading B5L A machine for cutting Vee grooves in sheet material 4 comprises one or more cutting heads each of which is adapted to cut one or more grooves in a single pass of the material 4 through the machine. Each cutting head comprises a rotary cutter 1A, 1B or 1C an anvil means 2A, 2B or 2C which is fixed in co-operative relationship with the cutter so that material being cut is supported on the anvil means and the clearance between the cutter and the anvil means dictates the thickness of the membrane joining the sections of material on opposite sides of each groove, and a pressure means 3 which is vertically adjustable and resiliently presses the material into contact with the anvil during cutting. In one machine described, each cutter head is adjustably mounted on a pair of beams 19 extending transversely of the material feed direction and the cutter heads are spaced along the direction of feed. The material may be fed by pairs of rollers which may be angled so as to keep one edge of the material against a fence 14 whilst its other edge is trimmed by a circular saw 15. Alternatively the material is fed by a chain or endless belt against which it is held by a further resiliently urged endless belt. In this case the edges of the material may be bevelled by a rotary cutter or circular saw. The sheet material may be hardboard or chipboard which may be laminated with a vinyl sheet.
