Testing efficiency of vacuum-producing appara tus.-Portable apparatus for testing ejectors fo: vacuum brakes &c. comprises air-reservoirs 1, 1<a> Fig. 1, connected by a pipe 2 and carrying a con nexion 8 and coupling 9, by which they can be con nected to the ejector apparatus. A vacuum gauge 7 and a leakage valve device 11 are mounted or the reservoir, and the whole apparatus is mountec on a trolley 3. The valve device comprises a casting 14, Figs. 2 and 3, adapted to receive the valve seating 15, in which is a segmental port 17, the size of which can be adjusted by turning the graduated plate 18 around the screw 19. The rubber &c. valve 32 is embedded in the enlarged portion 21<a> of the handle 21 and is secured by the head of the bolt 33. The handle 21 is mounted on a spindle 20 bearing in lugs 14<a> on the casting 14, and has an extension 30 adapted to abut against a stop 31 to limit the movement of the handle. The spindle 20 has shoulders 22, 23 and a hole 27 through which can be passed the hasp 28 of a padlock &c. 29. Shields 35, 35<a> are provided, extending from the casting 14, to prevent adjustment of the port 17 when the handle is in its normal open position (Y, Fig. 2). To adjust the port 17, the padlock &c. is removed and the spindle 20 moved laterally until the projection 30 is clear of the stop 31. The handles 21 can then he turned to the position Z, Fig. 2. The ejector apparatus is tested, first with the driver's brake valve in the emergency position, and the handle 21 in the closed position X, and then with the driver's valve in the running position and the handle 21 in the opened position Y.
