Track apparatus for stopping trains.-To the apparatus according to the parent Specification, there is added a means, Fig. 1, for bringing about an earlier application of the brakes if the brakepipe pressure is below the normal, the said means being a modified form of a part of the apparatus described in Specification 206,040, and a means, Fig. 3, for maintaining the brake application until the train is stopped. A cylinder 10 is in communication with the brake pipe and the piston 11 assumes a position corresponding to the pressure existing at any time and determines the position of a lever 15 carrying a roller 17, which bears against a lever 18 pivoted to the lever 8, which is controlled by the cam 7 as in the parent Specification. The lever 18 bears against a roller 19 on the supervising index lever 6, and the combined action is such as to set this lever 6 to a lower speed indication for any position of the lever 8 as the brake-pipe pressure is reduced. The brake application is maintained by latching in its depressed position the rod 4a by means of a latch 21 which is put in operation by a cylinder 26 supplied with exhaust air from the brake-valve 37 through a normally closed valve 28 which is opened towards the end of the revolution of the cam 7. Alternatively, the latch 21 may be moved mechanically by the cam 7. The latch 21 engages above the abutment 23 on the rod 4a and prevents the latter from rising until the latch 21 is reset either by engagement of the speed-indicating pointer 1 with the latch 34 or by manual release of the latch 34 by the cylinder 35.
