Abstract

1358925 Catalytic regeneration system COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 15 July 1971 [22 July 1970] 33341/71 Heading B1F [Also in Division Cl] In preparing a hydrogen feedstream for a deuterium exchange unit, a metallic or oxidic mass which is capable of reducing water to hydrogen and of being regenerated by treatment with hydrogen is arranged in an aparatus as shown in Fig. 1 comprising a series of juxtaposed tubes 3 to 8 in thermal communication with each other, each tube containing said metallic or oxidic material, and being fitted, e.g. with pipes 1 and 2, so that water vapour, or hydrogen depleted in deuterium obtained from the exchange unit may be supplied alternatively to the tubes, the arrangement being such that in any two adjacent tubes the water vapour supply for reduction to the one and the hydrogen supplied to regenerate the catalyst of the other flow in the same direction through the tubes. Fig. 2 (not shown) diagramtically illustrates the apparatus of Fig. 1 together with its attendant heat exchangers, auxiliary heaters, condensers and pipework.
