Abstract

1358685 Tobacco-smoke filter MOLINS Ltd 30 June 1971 [1 July 1970] 31801/70 Heading A2C A cigarette filter comprises a tubular filter element formed by two channel members 2, 4 lying side by side, and a wrapper 10 surrounding the element, the element being spaced from the wrapper 10 or being so shaped as to leave one or more axial passageways 12 between the filter element and the wrapper 10, and including means 14 for closing the passageway 12 or passageways at one end of the filter, and means 8 for closing the bore of the filter element at the other end of the filter, so that smoke from the cigarette 18 flows substantially radially through the wall of the filter element. The wrapper 10 may be provided with dimples 16, for spacing it from the element, and with strips stuck to it, for forming the closing means 14. The closure means 8 may take the form of a plug, which may be separate from or formed integrally with the filter element. Instead of the dimples 16 on the wrapper 10, the channel members 2, 4 may be formed with protrusions on their outer surface to engage the wrapper, or their outer surface may have axial flutes with the crests between the flutes engaging the wrapper 10.
