Abstract

1358605 Cross-linked partially deagglomerated UF resin particles CABOT CORP 29 July 1971 [30 July 1970] 52851/73 Divided out of 1358604 Heading C3R An infusible, insoluble, cross-linked, particulate UF resin has a BET surface area of 50-75 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. and a mean agglomerate size of 2À0-3À5 Á. It is obtained by heating urea with formaldehyde in 1 : 1 3-1À8 molar ratio in aqueous sulphamic acid or an ammonium acid sulphate at 40-85‹ C. and deagglomerating the dried product to 2-3À5 Á. In the example sulphamic acid is added to a solution of urea in formalin (U : F 1 : 1À25) containing Na carboxymethylcellulose; the precipitate is slurried with water, dried and reduced to 2À2 Á with a fluid energy jet mill; the product is mixed with delaminated kaolin in aqueous hydroxyethyl cellulose and used to coat paper.
