Abstract

1358262 Sliver forming apparatus PLATT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 20 July 1971 [5 Aug 1970] 37844/70 Heading D1N A web W from a carding cylinder 1 is doffed by a doffer roller 2 and then forwarded by a fluted roller 3 cooperating with a fixed surface 5 or further roller (12), Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the web is then condensed into a sliver by condensing rollers 6 and 7 set perpendicularly to the roller 3 and located at the minimum practical distance therefrom. The rollers 6 and 7 may be plain or fluted. Guide plates 8 and 9 may be provided and removal of the web from roller 2 is assisted by a doffer blade 4. Further intermediate rollers may be provided Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) and a plurality of condensing units may be associated with a single carding cylinder, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). Where two cooperating forwarding rollers are employed. The upper one may be weighted and doctor blades applied to perform a burr crushing and trash removal function.
