Abstract
1358074 Signalling over power lines TOKYO ELECTRIC POWER CO Inc 16 June 1971 [19 June 1970] 28113/71 Heading H4R In a system for signalling over A.C. power lines in which a circuit including an electronic switch is used to connect a capacitor across two power line conductors at a predetermined phase angle of the power current, two such circuits are connected so as to be able to apply two signalling pulses to each cycle of the power supply one in each half cycle of the supply. Two circuits for generating and injecting signal pulses are described. In both embodiments the electronic switch is an S.C.R. turned on at a predetermined phase angle following a zero crossing of the power level by a delay circuit of RC, LC or RL type connected across the conductors and controlling the gate of the S.C.R. As shown a delay or phase change network comprising R2, R3 and C2 connected between the line conductor at the top and the bottom of the figure trigger the S.C.R. via diode D1 at a predetermined phase angle connecting a capacitor C1 across the line conductors via an inductance L. The capacitor causes a reduced voltage spike to be superimposed on the line and the inductor is included to make this spike into a single cycle sine-wave variation. In the other embodiment (Fig. 9, not shown) the inductor is not used and the circuit is coupled to the line at a distribution transformer.
