Abstract
1358026 Measuring mass electrically MERRICK SCALE MFG CO 16 Jan 1973 2226/73 Heading G1N A mass measuring system applied to a belt conveyor comprises a pair of stringers 11 supporting an endless belt conveyor, a pair of eccentrics 13 being rotatably supported at 14 by the stringers, and an electric motor 19 independently supported and connected by a belt 27 to the shaft 14, so that rotation of the shaft 14 and hence of the eccentrics 13, causes vibration of the stringers at a resonant frequency dependent on the load on the conveyor. Two coils 29, 32 are responsive to the vibration of the stringers and the rotation of the motor respectively, and produce signals which are ideally 90 degrees out of phase. The signals are compared in a phase-sensitive network 36 whose output controls an S.C.R. speed controller 37 for the motor 19 to maintain the phase shift and resonance. A tachogenerator 38 measures the motor speed, the output being fed to a potentiometer 40 which also receives a signal indicative of the belt speed, so as to derive by means of an integrator, a measure of load per unit time.
