Abstract

1357976 Missile launcher BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 20 Dec 1972 [4 Jan 1972] 213/72 Heading F3C A launcher for a jet propelled missile 7, Fig. 3, has a deflector 10 for dissipating energy from the jet efflux 13 of the missile during launching thereof. In an embodiment a launcher 3, Fig. 1, comprises a main transverse member 1 which is mounted on a central structure 2 for rotation about the elevation axis 4 and the vertical axis 5. The member 1 has a support cradle 6 at each side thereof, each support cradle 6, having guide rail assemblies 8 which support a missile 7. A deflector 10 provided for each missile is mounted at the rear of the cradle 6 and is in line with the centre line of a thrust nozzle 9 of the missile. Each deflector 10 has plates 11, 12, Fig. 3, which are disposed at an angle "X" to each other, and is tilted at an angle "Y" relative to the plane normal to the launching axis, as shown in Fig. 1, and turned through an angle "Z" to the launching axis, as shown in Fig. 3. During firing the jet efflux 13 is prevented from contacting ground 14 by the deflector 10, the deflector being tilted at "Y" tends to compensate for forces trying to rotate the launcher about the elevation axis 4 and the deflector being turned through the angle "Z" tends to compensate for forces trying to rotate the launcher about the vertical axis 5.
