Abstract

1357939 Reeling wire &c S PEPLER 19 Dec 1972 [20 Oct 1971] 48832/71 Heading B8M Apparatus for reeling elongate material, e.g. wire, hose, wire fencing or sheet material, comprises a support structure 15 which may be supported on a vehicle, e.g., a tractor, a shaft 24 mounted for rotation in the support structure 15, a holder 40 for a reel or drum on the shaft 24, a hydraulic motor 36 connected for rotating the shaft and the holder and an adjustable regulating valve in a hydraulic conduit 37 leading to the motor 36 for regulating the drive of the motor. The support structure 15 comprises a first box-section member 16 through which the shaft 24 of the holder 40 passes, and a second box-section member 17 at right angles to the member 16, the member 17 supporting the bearings of the transmission system from the motor 36 to the shaft 24. In the preferred embodiment a system of chains and sprockets is used as the transmission system, but a system of pulleys and belts or gears may be used. The support structure 15 also includes box-section members 18, 19 for mounting the member 16 for example on the tines of a rake carried by a tractor, the box-section member 19 being adjustable towards and away from the member 18. The holder 40 comprises disc members 42, 43 for supporting a reel between them on a shaft 24. The disc 42 is fixed to the shaft 24 and the disc 43 is adjustable axially of the shaft to vary the spacing between the discs. The adjustable regulating valve is resiliently loaded by means of a spring contacting a variable abutment. The regulating valve is preferably situated adjacent the driver of a vehicle on which the apparatus is supported, the hydraulic conduits leading to the motor 36 being connected to a hydraulic power take-off device of the vehicle. Alternatively a hydraulic pump and reservoir for hydraulic fluid may be provided for the motor 36.
