Abstract

1357798 Separating amyloses K HAYASHIBARA 13 July 1971 [13 July 1970] 32897/71 Heading C3U A process for the separation of macromolecular amylose (above 50 D.P.) from starch solution involves gelatinizing by heating at 100-170‹ C. a suspension of ordinary starch, high amylose starch or amylose obtained by fractionation, cooling the resultant gelatinized starch solution (or suspension) to 40-60‹ C., optionally hydrolysing amylopectin present in the solution using α-1, 6-glucosidase, freezing to below - 5‹ C. and thawing the solution (or suspension), and then separating the starch solution from undissolved macromolecular amylose solids at 40-70‹ C. by centrifuging, filtration or pressing. The separated solution will predominate in low molecular amylose (D.P. 15 to 50) when the enzymatic hydrolysis of amylopectin has been included and in amylopectin when it has not.
