Abstract

1357680 Sintered TiC alloy cutting bit FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 14 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 57728/72 Headings C7A and C7D The cutting bit used for making a roughing or intermittent cut on a ferrous metal workpiece is made of a sintered alloy containing at least 50% of a carbide phase containing carbides of Ti, Cr and Mo bound by 10-50% of an alloy consisting of Ni, Mo, Cr and Ti, wherein, the TiC prior to sintering is free of dissolved Mo and carbides thereof, the sum of contents of Mo and its carbides is 25-75% of the binding metal and does not exceed 13% of the total alloy, and the sum of the contents of Cr and its carbides is 10-40% of the Ni content. The alloy has a hardness of at least 90 Rockwell A, is sintered at up to 2700‹ F and is free from detrimental quantities of nitrides and oxides.
