Abstract

1357079 Removing waste products in industrial processes HAWLEY MFG CORP 7 Dec 1972 56542/72 Heading F4X [Also in Division F2] A sealing arrangement permitting fluid communication between a longitudinally extending horizontal header 10 having an apertured side wall 13 and a movable carriage 21 comprises a flexible web 20 held in sealing engagement with an inset portion 18 of the side wall 13 except in the region opposite the carriage 21. Inner and outer rolls 23, 24 and 25, 26 within a chamber 22 defined by the carriage 21 constitute guide means around which the web 20 passes. One end of a flexible conduit 29 communicates with the chamber 22 while the other end is connected to a hood (not shown). Suction or a pressure medium may be applied to the header 10 by way of conduit 12. The carriage 21 is supported for longitudinal travel along the header by ways of brackets 30 and rollers 36 and 40. As shown the wall 13 of the header 10 is of ferrous metal and each lateral edge of the web 20 has a series of magnets 45 embedded in its surface. If the wall 13 is of non-ferrous metal, a series of magnets (47, Fig. 3, not shown) can be embedded in the surface of the wall to mate with the magnets 45 on the web. Alternatively a continuous strip of magnetic tape may be used instead of the series of separate magnets. In another embodiment (Figs. 4, 5 and 8, not shown) a pair of mating "hook and loop" strips (50, 52) may be used for securing the web to the apertured wall 13 of the header, one of the strips having loops (51) retentively interengaging with hooks (53) on the other strip.
